I founded Northumberland Foot Care in 2019, inspired by my experience as a community nurse where I recognized a significant need for specialized, in-home care across the county. Professionalism and safety are our cornerstones; every instrument is hospital-grade autoclaved or is single-use disposable to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and infection control. Providing compassionate, one-on-one visits is our specialty. We feel honored and privileged to serve the health and well-being of our community.

What is a foot care nurse?
An Advanced Foot Care Nurse (AFCN) has completed specialized post-graduate training in clinical foot health. They are experts in managing high-risk conditions, such as diabetes, where specialized care is essential to prevent complications. AFCNs provide professional services including toenail trimming, filing, and the reduction of corns and calluses, while also educating clients on maintaining long-term mobility and lower limb health.
Do you provide in home visits to Brighton, Trent Hills or Colborne?
Yes. Northumberland Foot Care is a fully mobile service; we do not operate out of a clinic. We bring professional nursing care directly to your home throughout Northumberland County, including Brighton, Trent Hills, Colborne, and surrounding areas.
Is foot care covered by OHIP or private insurance?
While foot care is not covered by OHIP, many private insurance providers offer coverage for medical services performed by a nurse. We recommend contacting your individual insurance provider to confirm if your specific plan covers nursing foot care. We do not do direct billing with any private insurance companies at this time.
What should I expect during my first visit?
Your initial visit begins with a comprehensive assessment of your medical history and current medications. After discussing consent and examining your feet and lower legs, we proceed with your tailored treatment. Initial visits usually last approximately 60 minutes while follow up visits usually last 45 minutes.
We provide all necessary medical equipment and seating; all you need to provide is a comfortable chair for your own use.
How often should I receive foot care?
Frequency of care is personalized for every client. Visits are typically scheduled every 6 to 10 weeks depending on individual health needs and mobility goals. We prioritize a schedule that reflects your personal requirements to ensure consistent, effective care.
